Homes and floors in Nijmegen
Nijmegen-Oost, the Willemskwartier, Bottendaal and the Benedenstad largely consist of pre-war and post-war reconstruction homes. The ground floor usually has a sand-cement screed that mills well; on upper floors with timber joists we fit dry-screed boards and mill into those. Hatert, Dukenburg, Lindenholt and Neerbosch-Oost have the 1960s–80s homes with a sand-cement screed on concrete — the classic milling job, usually done in one day.
In the Waalsprong (Lent, Oosterhout) and along the Waalkade there are many new builds with anhydrite floors and apartments with concrete floors. If you want underfloor heating there later, the floor doesn't need to be broken open: we mill straight into the existing screed. For a new screed or an extension we lay the pipe before pouring — stapled, tied on mesh or on studded panels.
Nijmegen aims to be gas-free by 2045 and many residents are already switching to a heat pump. Milled-in underfloor heating with 16 mm pipe at 100 mm centres runs on a low supply temperature and is the best basis for that switch.
